Desultory Narrative
Who holds the authority to tell a city's story: planners and museums, or the people who walk its streets every day?
Made in Tai'an, the city where she was born, the photographs respond to the city's plans for a new city-centre museum. They set the official story of the city, its slogans, restorations and painted walls, against the everyday lives that run alongside it, asking whether a place can keep its distinctiveness as cities grow to look more and more alike.
At PorterShed the work filled the space with 108 prints, eight at A1 and one hundred at A5, shown alongside the documentary of the same name.
